Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, involves removing excess abdominal skin and any scars or stretch marks that may be present on the resected area. It can be combined with hernia repairs or other abdominal wall injury repairs and can be associated with liposuction for a more aesthetic general result.

Indications

  • Excess abdominal skin
  • Subombilical scars or stretch marks

The surgical intervention

A surface of skin is excised between the navel and the pubis.

  • The skin is folded back towards the pubis.
  • The navel is left attached to the abdominal wall and is externalised by making an incision in the tightened skin.

The scar is hidden by underwear lines. The suture is performed with absorbable sutures and a support girdle is to be worn day and night for 6 weeks.

Patients will then have a retightened stomach. In order to be fully satisfied, a period of 3 to 6 months is necessary for the tissues to regain their suppleness and for the scars to fade.

Quitting smoking at least 2 months before the operation is mandatory in order to prevent predictable complications. Your surgeon will also review your general health with you in detail in order to minimise the risks of the surgical intervention as much as possible.
